Knight and Day movie consider as flop in world hit in Tamil Nadu
Last Friday (July 9), Tom Cruise- Cameron Diaz’s action comedy adventure Knight and Day has taken a fantastic 90 percent opening in seven Chennai screens.
The amazing action scenes in the film, first in the plane and the bike chase with the bulls in Spain towards the climax is the highlight of the film. The film is turning out to be a huge hit in Tamil Nadu.
The irony of it is that Knight and Day touted as the big action summer release by Hollywood trade pundits, bombed miserably when it was released on June 25.
At the US box-office the film could collect only $ 62 million in two weeks, which is pathetic, compared to summer hits like Toy Story 3 ($ 340 million) or The Twilight Saga- Eclipse ($ 237 million).
It proves once again the taste of Indian audiences is different from US. Tamil Nadu’s love for senseless action movies is once again proved by the success of an international flop Knight and Day in the state.

Trisha has missed in Manmadhan Ambu shooting spot
Trisha, who is enjoying every minute of her shoot for ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, her first film with Kamal Haasan, gave tense moments to her mother Uma Krishnan and crew members of the movie, when she reportedly lost her way on the cruise liner MNS Splendida.
“Since the ship is very huge, everyone was given with a blueprint of the vessel which would help reach a particular place. However, Trisha somehow went missing. Thankfully we found her after some time,” a source was quoted saying.
Meanwhile, the actress, who is an active netizen, has been singing praises about the ‘Ulaga Nayagan’ on a microblogging site. “Working with the legend n my most favourite actor Mr Kamal Haasan is the best part of it all....he will never cease to amaze me,” the actress tweeted.
Happy to be working with Madhavan, her first film (‘Lesa Lesa’) hero, again, she said, “It’s so good to be working with Maddy after seven long years. His pretty wife Saritha and adorable son Vedant are also here.”
The actress didn’t stop at that, but chirped that the entire unit of ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, directed by K S Ravikumar and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, felt more like family than colleagues. “Such a fun and affectionate star cast and crew!” she gushed.

Movie Review: Madrasapattinam
Banner: AGS
Cast: Arya, Amy Jackson, Nasser, VMC.Haneefa, Bala Singh, M. S. Bhaskar, Omar, Periya Karuppu Devar, Balaji
Direction: A L Vijay
Production: Kalapathi S. Aghoram
Music: G V Prakash Kumar
Website: http://www.madrasapattinam.com/
Young filmmaker Vijay, who has stepped out of filmmaker Priyadharshan’s school, has made his mentor proud. If ‘Siraichalai’ was considered a master pierce from Priyan, his protégé has proved with ‘Madrasapattinam’ that he is equally skilled.
The movie is set in the 1940s when the Britishers were about to leave the Indian soil. The crux of the film is about an innocent and valorous Tamil youth falling in love with the daughter of the English Governor.
The troubles and turmoil that their romance face and what transpired between the young White girl and the Tamil youth on the day of Indian independence have been dealt clearly and crisply with a touch of political background, laced with patriotism.
Though shades of ‘Titanic’ could not be avoided in this period film, it is a sincere and a worthy attempt with the whole cast contributing their might, ably supported by sound technical brilliance behind the screen.
The Madras then has been craftily recreated by art director Selva Kumar. The dhobikhana, the waterways at Buckingham canal, which were used for ferrying, the Central Station and its platforms, trams and the royal Government houses of the British era have been erected close to perfection.
What more, the lens of Nirav Shah has been at its best capturing them well on screen. The lights and shades, the colour tone and the difference in flashback and contemporary on screen hog all limelight thanks to the cinematographer. His work is one of the assets of the film.
Manohar Verma’s stunts are pulsating and racy. Especially the chase at the Central Station is astounding. Antony’s editing as usual peps up the proceedings, though he could have trimmed a little in the second half. However his scissors seems to have woked with a purpose.
But the scene-stealer is young G V Prakash Kumar. He has come up trumps with the songs that reflect the time. What more, the background score is apt for the movie. At places, he reminds one of maestro Ilayaraja. He has shown a lot of promise and ‘Madrasapattinam’ is sure to take him places. The sorrow of a woman missing her lover has been brought out well by Prakash’s background score.
The movie begins more like Titanic as an old English woman (Emy Jackson) almost at her death bed in London, wants to come down to Chennai in search of a young man Parithi (Arya) whom she last saw on 15 August, 1947.
Almost 60 years from then, she is clueless as she has just a picture of Parithi, which was taken then. The search begins. There are scenes where she recalls her past. It is revealed that Parithi was a valorous dhobi in ‘Madrasapattinam’. He revolts against the British officials for they plan to construct a golf course in their dhobikhana.
Comes Emi, daughter of Madras Presidency Governor, and she develops an affinity towards Parithi. She is friendly and helpful. Sequence of events leaves romance blossoming between them. Parithi calls her affectionately as Duraiamma.
Even as they face trouble from the angry White officials, comes 15 August 1947 which brings freedom to India. Duraiamma is now forced to go back to England. Parithi runs from pillar to post and fights to hold his sweetheart’s hands. But he couldn’t achieve his mission. Cut to present, Duraiamma is back in search of Parithi. Did she realise her mission forms the climax.
Arya excels in his role. He fits the role to T. Be it an angry youth voicing against the Whites or a romantic youngster running around to save his beloved, he is right there giving his best. Emy Jackson walks away with aplomb. Her spontaneous expressions are the highlight. For a foreigner to give right emotions in a Tamil film is no easy task. But she does the impossible with ease.
Cochin Haneefa’s one-liners are rib-tickling. The rest of the cast including Nasser, Balasingh, M S Baskar, Balaji, Kishore and Jeeva are adequate. English man Jack James as a greedy British cop is an apt choice.
Vijay has shown immense maturity in taking up such a difficult theme and working it out well with right entertaining and engrossing elements. His nose for minute details is worth mentioning. His adept screenplay and catchy screenplay work out right magic.
Produced by Kalpathy Brothers’ AGS Entertainment and presented by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Gaint Movies, ‘Madrasapattinam’ is a movie to cherish for movie-buffs. Away from the madding crowd of commercial clichés, it is a film that would send positive vibes among those who love meaningful films.

We Are Family movie is a fun film
There aren't many surprises in the promo for Karan Johar's Stepmom remake, the Hollywood tearjerker clearly choosing to put a fun foot forward instead.
Taking its title from Sister Sledge's hit song, Siddharth P Malhotra's We Are Family stars Kareena Kapoor and Kajol in the roles made famous by Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon in the Chris Columbus original.
The trailer starts with Kareena chirpily telling her stepchildren that they won't be going to school today, a balloon Kajol wastes no time in hysterically popping. We then see a bubblegum montage of moments of conflict between the two leading ladies, surprisingly sparing with the high melodrama the film obviously contains.
Arjun Rampal steps into Ed Harris' shoes and really leaves the film to the ladies, who both seem ready to amp it up.
Kajol, appearing hysterical and more than a trifle unhinged, seems content to let her lack of makeup do the talking, while Kareena, a far more assured actress, seems to be revelling in a role this meaty not to mention the chance to show up that other K woman.
The weird bits of the promo are how completely unreasonable Kajol's character seems to be, and the sudden dose of happy song-dance madness, culminating in both ladies sporting matching hats as they dance on stage.
The trailer's best moment comes at the end when Rampal asks his young son how difficult it'll be living with all these girls. 'Tell me about it,' says the kid, 'and now you've gone and gotten one more. It's such a mess.'
'Eat your food,' Rampal deadpans back. This could just be fun after all.

Silambarasan to play Vedam tamil version
It seems like Silambarasan who was cleverly managing his acts not getting into the remake wagon has finally boarded the wagon. Silambarasan has signed the remake of the recent sensational Telugu hit ‘Vedam’ that starred Allu Arjun, Manoj and Anushka in lead roles.
Silambarasan who recently saw the Telugu ‘Vedam’ was floored immediately by the Cable Raju character played by Allu Arjun. The Tamil remake rights are with R B Choudary of Super Good Films and with the Tamil version R B Choudary's son and actor 'Jithan' Ramesh will also turn a producer. Silambarasan has even completed a photo session for the remake.
Anushka was contacted to play her role in Tamil also. But the actress is said to have denied the offer. So the new sensation Tapsee of ‘Aadukalam’ may play the role of the commercial sex-worker in the film.
Silambarasan who was supposed to be is London this time for the 'Podaa Podi' shoot is still in Chennai for some reasons. One reason doing the rounds is that the artistes playing the secondary characters are being trained in dance as the film is a dance subject. Another reason said is that the team still hasn’t got the permissions to shoot at some special locations in London.

Vamsam Movie audio launch
The audio launch of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s grand son Arulnidhi’s launch as hero in Pandiraj directed Vamsam, held at Sathyam Cinemas was a grand affair.
The security was very tight as Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi, his sons Union Fertilizer Minister MK Alagiri, Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin were present at the function along with Tamil cinemas current superstars Vijay and Suriya and director actor Sasikumar.
Two songs and the movie’s trailer were first screened and later speeches were given by the dignitaries. Vijay and Suriya jointly released the audio album given by Kalaignar. Taj Noor a former assistant of AR Rahman is the music director.
The director Pandiraj said that even though Pasanga was critically raved about, he found it difficult to get his next film. Pandiraj said: “ It was Udhayanidhi Stalin who introduced me to Arulnidhi. Initally I thought he would not fit the role as he was a city boy while the story takes place in a rural milieu. But Arul is a hardworker and proved me wrong. He is the highlight of the film.”
Karunanidhi in his speech wanted Arulnidhi to become big like Vijay and Suriya who had made it due to their hard work and not their family connections of being SA Chandrasekhar or Shivakumar’s sons. Kalaignar was apprehensive of the title of the film (Vamsam) but Pandiraj convinced them that the title is apt as per the story line.

Genelia is brand ambassador of the year
Popular Tamil-Telugu-Hindi actress Genelia, who currently endorses nine brands including Cadbury’s Perk, Fanta, Spinz, Dabur Vatika, LG Cookie, Virgin, Margo, Garnier and Fasttrack, was selected as the brand ambassador of the year by CNBC AWAAZ Consumer Awards. The award was announced late Monday evening. Last year's award recipient was Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan.
Genelia said: "It is an honour that CNBC AWAAZ and the Indian consumers have chosen to bestow upon me and I couldn’t be happier. Stalwarts like Shahrukh and Akshay Kumar have been awarded this prestigious title in the past and I’m only glad that people think I’m worthy of the same."
"This award symbolizes a bridge between the consumer and the brand and I consider it a huge responsibility. I hope I continue to do even better in the future and I’m sure I will as I have a very strong team with me that helps me build, grow and sustain. My success is as much theirs as it is mine,” she added.

Katrina Kaif knows the importance of relationship
The beauty surely knows the importance of relationship… Although there’s an alleged gap between Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan, the actress has not cut away the ties with his near and dear ones.
Recently the gori had organized a special screening just for Salman’s family. But no, Salman didn’t watch it though. In fact his father Salim Khan who had attended the show was quite impressed with Katrina’s performance. On a sentimental note Katrina said to sources that she wanted Salim saab to see ‘Raajneeti’ for very special reason. For, he’s the one who has seen Kat since her initial struggling days in Bollywood. “He's very proud of me," remarked Katz excited.
Similarly, ‘Raajneeti’ director Prakash Jha is pleased and revealed that Salim saab was full of praise for the film. “He specially praised the dialogues which, coming from him, was a great compliment. Earlier, Salim saab had said what he and Javed Akhtar saab wrote as a cops story in Zanjeer was nowhere near the authenticity of my cops story in Gangaajal. He's a generous man,” quoted Jha to sources.
We wonder when we can hear Salman’s verdict… Salman in fact had tweeted that he surely would like to see ‘Raajneeti’, giving hope to Katrina. Incidentally, the hunk star till now has not seen any of Katrina’s film… Looks like being away from the show, Salman has dashed Kat’s dreams…

Actress Mamta Mohandas speaks about herself
Mamta Mohandas is sore about one thing- that not even a single character she had played so far gave her the opportunity to show her bubbly side. “I am so energetic in real life but I am always asked to underplay my emotions,” she sulks.
“My friends and family members know my real face. I am a big chatter box who is so bubbly and energetic. My favourite pastime is to play prank and to pull the legs of others for fun,” the actress says.
“However, the film industry is not allowing me to be myself,” she says and adds: “All the roles I have done so far kept my bubbliness in complete control. Hopefully I should get a chirpy character soon.”
But she is extremely happy about being a playback singer. “My thanks to music composers like Mani Sharma and Devi Sri Prasad for offering me energetic songs. I thoroughly enjoy each and every moment of singing.”

Who will direct Ajith's 50th movie?
Cloud Nine’s proposed latest announcement will mark an end to the rumors surrounding Ajith’s 50th movie. The production company that owns Ajith’s call sheets is on the verge of producing a movie, to be directed by Venkat Prabhu. Set in the backdrop of Mumbai’s Dharavi slums, this movie has been titled Mangatha.
On the other hand, Cloud Nine also owns the call sheet of Gautham Menon. Although there’s no news about what happened to the earlier speculated Gautham Menon–Ajith venture, looks like a Gautham–Cloud Nine production is in the cards. However, it is unclear if the director will wield the megaphone for a film that will have Ajith once the actor completes the assignment with Venkat Prabhu.

Salman reported to have donated 25 computers to the Saint Catherine's Home
He can be called a “khatta meetha” actor of Bollywood – sometimes rough, sometimes sweet… No no we are not talking about Akshay Kumar if you are going by what we said… We are referring to our hunk star Salman Khan…. While he is known for his mood swings, Sallu miyaan is popular as a saviour in disguise.
Recently, the actor proved his golden heart yet again…. Salman reported to have donated 25 computers to the Saint Catherine's Home in Bandra. This NGO institution aids children by giving them with free education and shelter.
Salman regularly visits this Home, say twice a month and spends time here with the children. According to sources, when the actor was there once, he learnt that the children were willing to learn computers but the institution lacked enough systems for everyone to work on. And there’s where the star stepped in to help….

Sherlyn Chopra has been banned from posting images on Twitter
Wherever Sherlyn Chopra goes and whatever she does creates a storm. Proving this was her recent ban from the microblogging site Twitter. If what we hear is to be believed, the seductive temptress Sherlyn Chopra has been banned from posting images on Twitter.
This comes after Sherlyn had posted naked images of herself on the site, saying they were from a photo shoot she had done. While not too long ago, she tweeted saying, "Where has my pic disappeared! This is strange! Can Twitter kindly let me know where my pics are? Is there a censor board on Twitter???" It turned out that the censors for content on Twitter deleted her images and also banned her from posting images.
Later, Sherlyn updated, "Twitter has banned me from uploading pics... My Team is tryin 2 get in touch with Twitter to sort out the matter." Chopra has also suggested that she will quit the social networking website if the problem doesn't get resolved soon.

Katrina Kaif's Raajneeti party plan has spoiled by Rain
Katrina Kaif was supposed to fly down to Mumbai for a day to attend the Raajneeti success party on Wednesday from Spain, where she is shooting for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, but the actress had to drop her plans because of the inclement weather there.
The Raajneeti team has a lot to celebrate about, but director Prakash Jha wanted no celebration until his lucky mascot Katrina was available.
But Zoya's crew has been facing rough weather ever since they arrived in Spain. Apparently six days of shooting had to be cancelled because of heavy rains. And now they need to quickly make up for lost time since their work permits and visas would expire.
Jha admits that Katrina would be unable to make it to the party.
"They've lost a lot of time because of the rain in Spain. I couldn't dream of having a Raajneeti bash without Katrina. And I had postponed it until her availability. But now it's impossible for Katrina to fly down," Jha said.
Katrina even requested the film's producers and the director to accommodate her absence for less than a day.
Says a source close to Katrina: "Since Prakash Jha was very, very keen to have her down to Mumbai for the bash, and had even made all the arrangements for her flight, Katrina was not willing to give up the idea of attending the function. She offered to be back in less than 24 hours. Katrina was willing to fly to Mumbai, attend the Raajneeti bash on Wednesday and fly out the same night to re-join the ...Dobara team the next morning. But this has not been allowed."
Jha will now record a video message from Katrina and play it at the party. "So she will be with us in spirit if not in person," he said.
Katrina, on the other hand, tried to sound diplomatic and not disappointed. "It is a big day. And the success of Raajneeti is very precious to me. But I can't leave the crew in Spain."
She admits there're lots of unscheduled breaks. Katrina has got one of her sisters, Melissa, to join her in Spain to give her company at break time.
"London is just two hours, so Melissa could join me. Mumbai is in another hemisphere. Flying down is impossible. Please tell Prakashji, mera party baqi raha," she said.
