Abhishek Bachchan promotes his Movie in Indian Idol

Abhishek Bachchan is planning to take the small screen route to promote his forthcoming film Raavan.

He will use Sony TV's music reality show Indian Idol 5 as a platform to create awareness about the movie which has been directed by Mani Ratnam.

The actor will shoot on Wednesday with the show's judges - Anu Malik, Salim Merchant and Sunidhi Chauhan - and contestants for the special episode, said a source.

The episode featuring Abhishek will be aired next week.

In Raavan, releasing June 18, Abhishek plays the negative role of Beera and has teamed up with wife Aishwarya Rai and southern star Vikram. The film also stars Ravi Kishan and Govinda.

Earlier, Abhishek appeared on Colors' daily show Balika Vadhu to promote his film Drona, which bombed at the box office.

Before Abhishek, Indian Idol 5 became a promotion platform for Badmaash Company, Housefull and Raajneeti.

While the debate over caste based census intensifies with most political parties favouring it Amitabh Bachchan has clearly said that if ever asked to mention his caste he would categorically say his caste is Indian irrespective of what the system decides.

Big B has said in his blog that his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a noted Hindi poet and literateur, never believed in caste system.

"My Father never believed in caste and neither do any of us. He married a Sikh (Teji Bachchan), I married a Bengali (Jaya Bhaduri), my brother a Sindhi (Ramola), my daughter (Shweta) a Punjabi (Nikhil Nanda), my son (Abhishek) a Mangalorean (Aishwarya Rai)... in his autobiography he (Harivansh Rai) had expressed that future generations of his family should marry into different parts of the country. So far that tradition has been kept alive!!"
